Yashavi Upasani, Mystery Author

Yashavi Upasani is a 14 year-old published author from Virginia, USA. She began writing at the age of 12, and has since released a middle-school mystery book!

Q: What do you love about writing? A: “I love that when you write, it doesn't matter if it's novel worthy, or if it makes sense to anyone other than yourself. When you write, you are expressing yourself in a written art form, whether that be through telling a story or relieving an adventure of your own, you write for yourself and how you want your story to be told.”

Q: What type of writing do you produce? Why have you chosen this genre? A: “I have produced a mystery book for middle-grade children. I chose mystery because as a kid, I loved reading books that had you wondering about something, trying to find something with the characters as you were reading. I also wrote for children because I felt that I know what kids wanted as a fun, mystery book because I was a kid when I wrote it.”

Q: What’s your most recent released project? A: “I have written a middle-grade mystery book titled, Helping Them. Helping Them follows the tale of four children, Charles, Emily, Samantha, and Antonio, as they try to find Charles' missing cousin, Dominic. Enter in Mr. DeRenzo, a teacher with a life that seemed to only get more boring. Overhearing their plot to find Dominic, Mr. DeRenzo enlists his services to help the kids, leading them on an adventure that involves staying late after school, breaking into hotel rooms, and hopefully, learning a little bit more about friendship along the way. Helping Them will be out everywhere on August 4 and has been entered in the Young Adult category in the Author Academy Awards.”

Q: What are you currently working on? A: “I am currently co-hosting a podcast titled Behind The Story where I tell the true stories behind some of the most famous horror movies. Behind The Story is currently on platforms such as Apple, Google, Spotify, and many more podcast platforms.”
