Maile Starr is a 21 year-old published author from Denver, Colorado. She began writing when she was 6 years old, due to inspiration from a gift from her grandmother.
Q: What do you love about writing? A: "I love getting to create new things and put my own twist on old things. My absolute favorite thing is creating and getting to know my characters through writing. I'm not one for character sheets and such. I get to know my characters through writing them in scenes and I love them all in their own way."
Q: Why have you chosen YA as your primary genre? A: "I chose this genre because I feel most comfortable writing in it. YA is perfect because of the variety of stories I get to tell. It also has the ability to get a little darker than other genres, but it still has a lot of room for hope and love, all subjects that I like to write about!"
Q: What's your most recent released project?
A: "My most recent publication was in Harness Magazine. It's a poem titled "It's Between Fear and Courage" that deals with PTSD from school shootings, the fear that our generation feels from attending school and also the immense courage that it takes to get out of bed and go to school anyway."
Q: What are you currently working on?
A: "I am currently working on getting my first book, Ella and The Prince of Rosailles published. Ella and The Prince of Rosailles is YA romance retelling of Cinderella that is told from both Ella's perspective and The Prince's perspective!"
