Lucy VanRegenmorter is a 20 year-old published author from Michigan, USA. She began writing in elementary school where she wrote novels, comics and short stories. Q: What do you love about writing? A: “I think that as humans, we are all more alike than we realize. I love that through writing, emotions, thoughts, and experiences can be put into words that resonate with the reader. I want my writing to make the reader understand that the feelings and thoughts they have are part of the common human experience, and they are not as alone as they think.” Q: What type of writing do you produce? Why have you chosen this genre?
A: “I mostly write poetry, and I chose this genre because I like to use line breaks to apply meaning that a normal sentence alone cannot. I also like the way I can arrange words on the page in unconventional ways to make it more visually appealing and emotionally stimulating.”
Q: What’s your most recent released project?
A: “My short story, "Reflections," was recently published in Dialogue, the art and writing journal at Calvin College. This spring, I wrote for the men's fashion segment of VIM, Michigan State University's fashion and lifestyle magazine.”
Q: What are you currently working on?
A: “I am currently working on a spoken word poem about loving someone who struggles with addiction. It's called "Party Store," and I hope to perform it at CUPSI 2021, as I was not able to do so this year due to the pandemic. I am also working on a book of collected prose and poetry.”
