Jennifer McGraw is a 20 year-old published author from southern New Jersey, USA. She began writing around the age of 7, and has since gone on to produce several poetry and prose collections.
Q: What do you love about writing?
A: "I love that it has become a creative outlet for me to express my emotions. It has helped me control and show how I’m feeling healthily in the past few years."
Q: Why have you chosen poetry and prose as your primary genres?
A: "I started writing poetry specifically in 2017 after a friend had encouraged me to take up writing as a therapeutic way to handle my feelings and emotions. Writing poetry and prose allows me to tell a story within a few lines. For those moments, I’m able to dive into any world that I can create. With my upcoming book, a lot of the poems revolve around nature. The recurring metaphor that nature represents is a story that I get to share."
Q: What's your most recent released project?
A: "My most recent project is “colors” which has been released on the Barnes and Noble website. “colors” is a poetry and prose book about the highs and lows of high school senior year with other references to mental health awareness, body positivity, and coming of age."
Q: What are you currently working on?
A: "My current projects include my second poetry book titled “human nature”. It is a poetry and prose book about healing and growth and channeling inner strength. What contrasts this book from my first book is that I’m not playing an “innocent” role anymore and I’m more of an unapologetic narrator this time. I hope to publish this book in December of this year or early spring 2021. I’m also working on a poetry book with fellow authors that I know for the Black Lives Matter movement. BLM allyship and black poets alike will have their voices heard in this poetry book. Proceeds from this book will go towards BLM mutual fund organizations and more related organizations if we can!"
