Isabelle Johnson is a 17 year-old published author from Tennessee, USA. She began to take writing seriously at 14, and published her first book at 16.
Q: What do you love about writing?
A: "What’s not to love? I could really go on for hours about everything I love about it. I think it’s amazing that we have this unique ability to create something from nothing and bring something into this world that wasn’t previously here before. Writing is a beautiful way to express myself and my thoughts into a fantastical story. If there’s anything I particularly feel drawn to, it’s the characters. I’m also an actress, so I find the most meaning within my characters and their development. I think writing is truly a gift, and being a writer is such a remarkable thing to do. A lot of people can come up with stories and great thoughts, but taking the time to actually sit down and work through them and write a whole book, edit it, etc., really is just something special."
Q: Why have you chosen Fantasy as your primary genre?
A: "There’s something about a world filled with magic and the unbelievable that really just makes me feel so much joy. I’ve always loved fantasy books and movies growing up, and they’ve always been my little escape."
Q: What's your most recent published project? A: "My most recent book is The Incredible Adventures of Mr. Marxadue. The story follows Brooke Williams, who recently lost her parents due to a sudden accident. After trying to save a stranger from drowning at her own expense, she is rescued by two sailors (Jacob and Mr. Marxadue) and accompanies them on their adventure of saving the Seven Pearls of the Sea from a mysterious masked criminal. It took me about a year and a half to write this, and then a month to get the courage to publish it. It’s still scary when people I know read it, but I figured it would happen sooner or later. It’s my favorite story I’ve ever written, and I truly believe it will always be my favorite. It has a very special place in my heart and I honestly have no idea who or where I’d be without it."
Q: What are you currently working on?
A: "Well, I’m still deciding on a title (and, quite honestly, a definite plot), but it surely will be a fantasy story. Right now, it’s loosely following the story of a whimsical old antique shop and a young girl named Lydia who accidentally awakens the objects back to life. I’m at 21k right now, but hopefully it’ll be released by September."
